Sarah Sentilles, Breaking Up With God (Classic RFL) January 8-14

Sarah Sentilles broke up with the Creator of the Universe just as she was about to be ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church. She tells all in her book, Breaking Up With God: A Love Story.  In this interesting and thought-provoking interview on Religion For Life, Dr. Sentilles shares her theological journey and demonstrates why if the church is going to have any relevancy to educated and inquiring minds, it is going to need to challenge its patriarchy and its outdated images of God.

David Galston, Embracing the Human Jesus (Classic RFL), January 1-7

What happens when you bring the historical Jesus to church? In other words, if we strip away the myth from the man and develop a community based on humanistic principles, what would it look like? It might look like the Quest Learning Centre for Religious Literacy, a community founded on the historical Jesus, in Hamilton, Ontario. My guest, Dr. David Galston, is the leader of this community. He is a fellow of the Jesus Seminar and the author of an exciting new book, Embracing the Human Jesus: A Wisdom Path for Contemporary Christianity. David speaks with me about his book, his community, and explores the phrase, “post-atheism.” It is part of my “future of faith” series on Religion For Life!

As I arrive and settle in I will find a new home to produce Religion For Life.  Until then, for the next several weeks enjoy Classic Religion For Life at the same time on the same stations!    You will hear the best of Religion For Life from the last three years.   I’ve produced and broadcast 144 programs since Religion For Life began  in January of 2012.   I hope to be up and running with new shows from a new station in the Spring of 2015.  Thanks for your encouragement and support!

Barbara Brown Taylor, Learning to Walk in the Dark (Encore), December 4 – 10

Author of Leaving Church and An Altar in the World, Barbara Brown Taylor takes us on a tour of the dark places in her latest lyrical book, Learning to Walk in the Dark.  She explores real and metaphorical darkness and confronts the fear of that darkness.  She urges us to feel around in the dark whether that darkness be grief, doubt, or the unknown and rather than light it up, be present with it.  Join us on a journey in the dark!
